Green Elephant
About This Spot
Stepping into Green Elephant feels like entering a quiet, inviting nook where the hum of genuine care and tradition softly sets the pace. Nestled in Loomis, this unpretentious Burmese spot offers more than just a meal—it unfolds a subtle narrative of flavors that linger long after the last bite. The atmosphere is warm and calm, where thoughtful service gently guides you through a menu that quietly celebrates the diverse, layered soul of South Asian cuisine.
Here, every dish feels like a small discovery. The distinct zest of a tea leaf salad, for example, isn’t just about taste—it’s an experience of textures and subtle bitterness that intrigues and comforts in equal measure. The aromas of spiced curries and fragrant biryanis weave through the air, inviting you to slow down and savor each moment. Portions are generous but never overwhelming, encouraging a shared feast that feels intimate and well-paced.
What lingers most is the feeling that this kitchen is led by someone who knows the importance of hospitality—not only in the food but in the way dishes are carefully explained and recommended, especially to those venturing into Burmese tastes for the first time. It’s a place where the balance of flavors mirrors the friendly, down-to-earth vibe of the service, creating a quietly memorable outing rather than a rushed meal.
For anyone curious about South Asian cuisine beyond the usual, Green Elephant offers a gentle invitation to explore. Whether you arrive on a slow weekday evening or a reserved weekend dinner, you’re likely to find this space a comforting reminder that good food is deeply tied to thoughtful, human moments.

This is a food experience. Can't believe we haven't eaten here before. Make sure you have reservations though as they only take a certain number of people per evening. Make certain you get the coconut chicken soup with your order. The green tea salad is excellent as well. So many levels of flavor. We also had a vegetable coconut curry.

Got back from a trip to Thailand and one of the experiences we had was how to make cold pressed coconut oil. The class included lunch and was Burmese. Fell in love with the Tea Leaf Salad and when we returned I had to find it near me. Found this place on a Google search and am so glad I did. We went there, unassuming, small place but with great service. The owner is the host, server and boss lady. Probably only one or two cooks in the back and keep that in mind. The food was amazing, fresh, flavorful and with a generous portion, we had leftovers. I had went back a few days later to get another order of the Tea Leaf Salad and the Curry Beef.

They have very friendly and personal-feeling service because the waitress was very helpful in giving us suggestions in what to order and helped us pick things that she recommended. This was very nice because it was our first time and she helped us pick delicious traditional Burmese food. They have good vegan options and the food in general has a very good taste. Overall it has a very authentic feel with interesting and delicious flavors. If you like to try new things this is a very good option.

Really delicious food, very obviously cooked with love and skill! We especially loved the mee-gorang and chili jam chicken. Pretty big portions for a very fair price. The service is very friendly too!

We had: 1. Curry chicken and potatoes. Tasty, but there were not many potatoes. 2. Shrimp Pad Thai was excellent! Highly recommended. 3. Tea salad, the house specialty, was excellent. Avoid if you have nut allergies. 4. Black bean catfish had great flavor. The catfish is, of course, boneless. The texture of the fish was a bit mushy. *These dishes were eaten over white rice. There is plenty of parking and an easy to find location. The service left a bit to be desired. Definitely mom and pop. It seemed like Mom was waiting tables, and Pop was cooking. Service and food came out slowly. However, if you have time, the food was not bad & certainty easy on the pocketbook at this "Hole-in-the-wall" in Loomis.

Love everything about Green Elephant - mee goreng, fish curry, tea leaf salad is one of the most robust). The proprietors create ooo's aaah's in the warmth of a friend's home.

Early holiday dinner date with family, thanks for the suggestion. Very personal and friendly service! It was our first time trying a Burmese restaurant, including Lotus root and Ginkgo seed! Delicious food for a dinner date!

Oh my, we decided to come back here and get the Chili Jam Chicken with mee go rah, and of course the green tea salad. Amazing spice, not too hot and full of flavor.
